King of Glory by Britney Cashman

I am excited to introduce a singer with whom I’ve been traveling around of late. Britney Cashman and her husband Jonathan have been touring the New England area promoting our new book, 40 Days with the Savior, showcasing their own music, especially the musical SAVIOR which inspired the devotional, and trying to raise funds for their new album. This song is from Britney’s worship album, Great Reward, from which this wonderful video above is drawn. I hope you love it. She graciously shared her thoughts with me about this song below. Share this with as many of your friends as you can. You can learn more about the Cashmans and Britney’s music at thecashmans.org & britneycashman.com.

Psalm 24:1-10 “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters. Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.

Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.”

The song “King of Glory” was inspired rather quickly and written through a private time of worship at Sunset Blvd. Studios in Brentwood, TN. My husband Jonathan and I were recording the musical SAVIOR at the time (which was about a year’s endeavor in the studio) and it was a long day of tracking rhythm instruments. There was a beautiful Yamaha C7 grand piano in the other room (fully soundproofed) that was just beckoning me to come play it… so I slipped off and got lost in God’s presence.

I had no intention of writing that day. As I was singing about the holiness of God… the greatness of God… the glory of God, however, I started visualizing what it would be like to see Him in heaven. What must it be to worship Him alongside endless multitudes of people spanning all generations and ethnicities (“tribes and nations”). The magnitude of that concept just overwhelmed me. Can you even picture it? A great sea of diverse people throughout the all ages of time, all gathered in one place, crying out praises to the one and only King—the King of Glory! I can only imagine what a glorious and triumphant sound that will be one day, as we all join in unity and worship our king!

My hope and prayer for this song is that, as you listen, you too will have a glimpse of eternity, that it will inspire a heart in you to worship with abandon. We are not alone, and one day we will be greeted by multitudes who, like us, have experienced the life-changing love and grace of our Savior Jesus Christ! May God continue to do a great work in us as the church, that immeasurable multitude formed from people throughout the world of various denominations and sects, that we might be prepared and purified as the one and unified body of Christ, who will one day stand and fall in awe before His infinite glory!
