Christians often misunderstand what it means to call God holy and have a narrow understanding of our own holiness. God is holy in his very essence. Holy is the most precise word used by Scripture for deity. From this core understanding three other uses of “holy” emerge. That which belongs to God is holy to him, dedicated to His service—derived holiness. There are also practical rules for belonging to the holy, and a transformative element to belonging to the holy called Eschatological Holiness. In Part 3, we focus on Derived Holiness.
