Historical Hermeneutics and Saul’s Grabbing of Samuel’s Hem in 1 Samuel 15:23-31

The garment hem plays an unexpected role in many Scriptures. It is unexpected because we have nothing like it in our western world. Below is a link a recent lecture I delivered on the subject of the importance of reading Scripture within ITS OWN historical context and not in light of the reader’s context. I focus on Saul’s grasp of Samuel’s hem in 1 Samuel 15 and the value that understanding the historical context of this event brings to our theology.

When delivered as a sermon, I often call it either “Getting Out the Pagan Within,” or “Yahweh Don’t Play That.”

Enjoy.

Follow this link to a podcast of my Lecture on Historical Hermeneutics and Saul’s grasping of Samuel’s Hem. I think You’ll Love it. There is a power point to go along with it if you like.

There are two versions. One includes just my lecture. The other includes the whole service. Pick your poison… or elixir of life as the case may be.
